Protests at poppy burning trial

23 February 2011 Last updated at 11:11 Demonstrations have been held outside a court where two men are due to stand trial accused of burning poppies on Armistice Day in west London.

Mohammed Haque and Amdadur Choudhury were arrested during a demonstration by Islamist group Muslims Against Crusades in Kensington on 11 November.

Mr Haque and Mr Choudhury, both of east London, deny a public order charge.

English Defence League (EDL) members shouted "scum" at the defendants' supporters at Woolwich Crown Court.

It is alleged Mr Haque and Mr Choudhury employed threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour within hearing or sight of persons who could be alarmed or distressed by this during the demonstration last year.

Mr Haque, 30, of Mace Street, Bethnal Green, and Mr Choudhury, 26, of Hunton Street, Spitalfields, were charged under section two of the Public Order Act.

They will appear before Belmarsh magistrates sitting at Woolwich Crown Court.
